Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

StatBat is an offline app for scoring cricket matches and keeping the record that comes out of them. This policy explains what the app stores, what leaves your device, and what does not. It is written to be read rather than to protect us — if anything here is unclear, please write to us and ask.

2. What StatBat stores, and where

Everything you create — your own profile, your players and teams, every match ball by ball, your tournaments, the statistics worked out from them, and the photos you attach to a player or a team — is stored in a database on your device only. It is never uploaded, never synced, and never backed up to any server of ours.

There is no account, no sign-in and no server behind this app. We cannot see anything you enter, because it never reaches us. That also means we cannot recover it for you if it is lost.

3. Your own profile

StatBat asks for a name when you first open it, and My Profile also records the team you play for, along with your playing role and your batting and bowling styles. That is how the app knows which player in a scorecard is you.

It is kept in the same database as everything else, on your device. There is no account behind it, nothing to sign in to, and no copy of it anywhere but the phone in your hand.

4. Details you enter about other people

StatBat lets you record more than a name. A player profile can hold a photograph, and a team can hold a logo. Both stay on your device exactly like the rest of your data, and neither is sent anywhere.

A photograph is still somebody else's likeness, though. Please add it only if that person is happy for you to keep it, and remove it if they later ask you to. You are the one holding it — the app gives us no way to reach it, and no way to delete it on their behalf.

5. What we do not collect

Apart from what you type into the app yourself, StatBat asks for very little. In particular:

• No account, sign-up or login of any kind
• No access to your contacts, your location or your microphone
• No collection of the players, teams, matches, scores or statistics you record
• No selling or sharing of the information you enter, because we never receive it

6. Crash reporting

When the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, a report is sent to Sentry, a third-party service that helps us find and fix faults. A report describes what the app was doing when it failed: the error itself, the screen it happened on, the device model, the operating-system version and the version of StatBat you are running.

These reports do not contain your players, matches, scores, statistics or photos. They do include your IP address, which is unavoidable for a service that has to receive the report over the internet. You can read how Sentry handles it in the Sentry Privacy Policy.

7. Advertising

StatBat is free, and the advertisements in it are what pay for it. They are supplied by Google AdMob. The service starts when the app opens and shows advertisements inside the app — a banner along the edge of a screen, or a full-screen ad between one screen and the next. AdMob is operated by Google, and to serve those ads it may collect:

• Your device's advertising ID — the Android advertising ID, or the identifier for advertisers on iOS
• Your IP address, and the approximate area it places you in
• Device identifiers and general device information, such as the model, the operating-system version and the language
• How you interact with the ads shown — which appeared, which you tapped, and how long they were on screen
• Signals Google uses to detect invalid or fraudulent ad activity

Google uses this to choose which advertisements to show, to avoid showing you the same one over and over, and to measure them. AdMob never receives the cricket data you enter — it has no access to your profile, to your players or their photos, and none to your matches, scores or statistics. Advertisements need an internet connection. Scoring does not, so in a ground with no signal you will simply see no ads and the app will carry on working. When you are online, ads use mobile data like anything else.

8. Choosing what kind of ads you see

Advertisements come in two kinds. Personalised ads are chosen using the advertising ID described above and what has been associated with it; non-personalised ads are chosen from the context alone. You will see ads either way — the choice affects only how they are picked.

Where the law requires your consent — in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — a consent message from Google appears before any personalised ad is served, and your answer is remembered until you change it. On iOS, Apple asks separately for permission to track; if you decline, ads are still shown, but non-personalised.

Wherever you are, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or turn ad personalisation off altogether, in your device's own settings. Google's own controls are at Google Ad Settings.

9. Permissions the app asks for

StatBat asks for a permission only when a feature needs it, and uses each one for that feature alone:

• Notifications — to remind you before a match you have scheduled
• Exact alarms and start-up on Android — so a reminder you have already set still arrives after the phone restarts
• Camera and photo library — only at the moment you choose a picture for a player or a team, and only the picture you pick
• Internet access — to load advertisements and to send crash reports

You can refuse any of these, or withdraw them later in your device's settings. Everything else — scoring, statistics, tournaments — carries on working without them.

10. Deleting your data

You are in control of everything the app holds, and there are three ways to remove it:

• Delete a player, team, match or tournament from inside the app to remove that record
• Settings → Erase All Data clears everything the app holds at once
• Uninstalling the app takes the database with it, along with the photos it copied into its own storage

Once any of these completes, the data is gone and we cannot restore it — because we never had a copy of it in the first place. StatBat has no backup and no export, so please be sure before you erase anything.

One thing worth knowing: if your device's own backup is switched on — Android's backup to your Google account, for example — the system may include the app's data in it. That copy is governed by your device settings and by Google, not by us, and you can switch it off there.

11. Children

StatBat is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. The app does show advertisements, which is worth keeping in mind if a child is scoring on your device. If you believe a child has provided information through this app, please contact us.

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will appear on this screen with a new effective date at the top. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy, so it is worth checking the date if you have not read it for a while.
